Customer marketing automation for growing Indian businesses — WhatsApp, SMS and Email campaigns that run without a marketing team

Varisya sets up and runs your customer marketing on infrastructure you own — audience segments built from your billing data, WhatsApp and SMS templates registered under your DLT sender ID, TRAI-compliant consent and opt-out management, birthday and occasion automations, and a monthly ROI report that connects messages sent to sales made. No marketing agency fee, no SaaS per-contact pricing, no list management spreadsheet. From ₹39,000/year, on your own servers.

The gap

Five ways manual WhatsApp broadcasts and bulk SMS tools leave Indian retailers short

Most Indian retail and service businesses with 500–5,000 customers have tried marketing automation through one of three paths: a manual WhatsApp broadcast list, a bulk SMS platform with a CSV upload, or a generic CRM with a campaign module they never finished configuring. All three stall at the same problem — the marketing system and the billing system are separate, so segment data is always stale, ROI is never measurable, and the work of sending a campaign always lands on someone who has other jobs to do.

What Varisya builds and runs

Six components — set up once, running continuously

Varisya configures and manages the Campaigns module from the Nidhi Stack — a customer marketing system designed to run alongside Books, Billing, and POS on the same customer database. Every component below is built once and maintained on the annual retainer; new templates and segments are added by the Varisya engineer when needed, not through a new project scope.

Component 1

Audience segmentation from billing data

Segments built from your live customer and billing database — by recency (bought in last 30/60/90 days), frequency (single-purchase vs repeat), spend tier, product category, location, or any combination. No list uploads. Segments resolve at send time so the data is always current.

Component 2

Per-channel message templates

WhatsApp Business API templates (with image support and call-to-action buttons), TRAI-registered SMS templates under your DLT sender ID, and Email templates for businesses with an email customer base. Varisya writes the first set of templates, prepares them for channel approval, and manages the approval process.

Component 3

TRAI-compliant consent and opt-out management

Every commercial SMS and WhatsApp campaign must provide opt-out. Varisya configures STOP keyword handling for SMS (TRAI-mandated), unsubscribe flow for WhatsApp, and consent recording for customers who have opted in. Opt-outs are respected across all future campaigns automatically — the system does not re-add them.

Component 4

Scheduled and triggered send engine

Festival and seasonal campaigns scheduled in advance (Diwali, Eid, Pongal, financial year-end offers). Trigger-based campaigns that fire when a customer crosses a threshold — first purchase, reaching a spend milestone, 30 days since last visit, or a new product category the customer has not tried. No manual send step required for trigger campaigns.

Component 5

Occasion automations

Birthday and wedding anniversary messages sent on the customer's actual date, not in a batch. Reorder reminders sent when a customer's typical repurchase interval has elapsed. Lapsed-customer re-engagement messages sent at 30, 60, and 90 days of no visit. Each occasion automation fires per customer without any manual trigger from your team.

Component 6

Revenue-linked ROI report

Monthly report connecting each campaign to the billing records created in the attribution window: messages delivered, customers from the segment who purchased, revenue from those purchases, cost-per-conversion, and campaign ROI. Because Campaigns and Billing share a database, attribution is automatic — no manual reconciliation against a separate CRM.

Who this is for

Which Indian businesses fit — and which do not

If you are a retail, service, or distribution business with 500–10,000 customers in your billing system, an average transaction value above ₹500, and repeat-purchase potential — customer marketing automation typically returns 4–8x its cost in incremental revenue in year one. The return is highest for businesses where customers already repeat but do not think of you between visits: pharmacies, salons, apparel stores, home goods retailers, electronics dealers, distributors with B2B clients on reorder cycles, and professional service businesses with retainer clients.

If you are a brand-new business with fewer than 200 customers, have no billing system, or sell one-time non-recurring products — marketing automation is premature. A WhatsApp broadcast list and manual follow-up will cover your marketing needs until you have enough customer history to build meaningful segments. Varisya will tell you this honestly in the scoping call rather than selling you a system that has no data to run on.

Channel / approach WhatsApp broadcast list Bulk SMS platform (CSV upload) Varisya customer marketing automation
Customer segmentation None — same list gets every message Manual CSV filter — list stale by definition Live segments from billing database — resolved at send time
TRAI / DLT compliance No sender ID — unregistered commercial messages build DND liability Platform sends under a shared pool — your business entity is not DLT-registered Messages sent under your registered DLT sender ID; all templates registered; opt-out automated
Occasion automations Manual — someone must remember to send birthday messages Not supported Per-customer trigger: fires on each customer's birthday / anniversary / reorder date automatically
ROI measurement None — no connection to sales data Delivery report only — no sales attribution Revenue from campaign segment vs send cost, per campaign, per month
Effort to run a campaign High — list building, message draft, owner approval, send High — CSV export from billing, upload to platform, draft, send Low — segment pre-configured, template approved, one approval step to trigger
Who manages it The owner or counter staff — during peak hours Whoever manages the billing exports — an ad-hoc task Varisya engineer on annual retainer — new templates and segments handled without a new project scope
Data ownership Customer list on WhatsApp's cloud Customer list on bulk SMS platform's servers Customer database on your own server — not accessible to Varisya or any third party
Pricing model Free (WhatsApp) / per-message cost Per-message (₹0.08–₹0.18/SMS) + platform fee Annual retainer from ₹39,000/year — no per-message charge for setup and management
How it works

From first call to live customer marketing in four to six weeks

Varisya configures, launches, and manages the system. Your team's involvement is limited to a scoping conversation, approvals on templates before they go to channel registration, and a monthly review of the ROI report. The Varisya engineer on your retainer handles everything else — including new templates and campaign changes as your business evolves.

Common questions

Frequently asked about Varisya's customer marketing automation

We already send WhatsApp broadcasts manually — what does setting up marketing automation actually add?

A manual WhatsApp broadcast list treats every customer identically, goes to everyone at once, has no opt-out mechanism (TRAI requires one for commercial messages), and gives you no data on who opened, clicked, or purchased after receiving the message. Marketing automation adds four things manual broadcast cannot: audience segmentation (send the Diwali offer only to customers who bought in the last 90 days; send the reorder reminder only to customers who typically repurchase every 45 days), TRAI-compliant consent and opt-out management (so you are not building DND liability), occasion automations that fire per customer without manual effort (birthday messages go out on each customer's birthday, not in a batch), and an ROI report that tracks whether a campaign actually drove revenue. The difference is between blasting a list and running a retention programme.

We run a retail store with 3,000 customers — can Varisya set up customer marketing automation for us without us needing a dedicated marketing team?

Yes — this is exactly the buyer profile the system is built for. Varisya configures the Campaigns module against your billing data (customer list, purchase history, product categories, visit frequency), sets up the audience segments, builds the initial message templates in the channels you use (WhatsApp Business API, SMS, or both), registers your DLT templates with TRAI/your telecom provider, configures the occasion automations (birthday, X-day-since-last-visit, approaching reorder threshold), and hands over a system your team triggers with one approval step — no marketing background required. Ongoing changes (new templates, new segments for a product launch, seasonal campaign setup) are handled by the Varisya engineer on your annual retainer without a new project quote each time.

Do we need to register our business with TRAI (DLT) to send SMS campaigns, and does Varisya handle that?

Yes, every business sending commercial SMS in India must register on the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform mandated by TRAI — this covers your business entity, your sender ID (the 6-character alphanumeric name that appears on the recipient's phone), and every message template you plan to send. Without DLT registration, messages are blocked before delivery. Varisya walks you through the DLT registration process and helps you frame templates so they are approved on the first submission (template rejections are common when the wording is unclear or contains prohibited terms). You hold the DLT account under your own business entity — Varisya cannot register it on your behalf, but can prepare all the documentation and template wording. The SMS gateway account (Fast2SMS, MSG91, or similar) and the WhatsApp Business API account are similarly held by you; Varisya connects and manages them from within the Campaigns module.

How do the audience segments work — do we have to manually upload a customer list every time we want to send a campaign?

No — the Campaigns module reads from the same billing and customer database that Varisya Books and the POS run on, so segments are built from live data, not from uploaded spreadsheets. Varisya configures the segment rules once: for example, "customers who purchased in the last 60 days and have not visited in the last 20 days" or "customers whose total spend in the last 12 months exceeds ₹10,000" or "customers who have bought from Category X but never bought from Category Y". When you run a campaign, the segment is resolved at send time — so if a customer was inactive last week but came in yesterday, they move out of the re-engagement segment automatically. You do not maintain lists manually. New customers added to the system by billing appear in segment queries the moment they are created.

What does the ROI report show, and how do we know if a campaign actually drove sales?

The ROI report connects campaign sends to the billing records created in the days following the send. For each campaign, the report shows: number of customers in the segment, number of messages delivered (channel-confirmed delivery for WhatsApp Business API and SMS gateway), number of customers from that segment who made a purchase within a defined attribution window (typically 7 or 14 days), revenue generated from those purchases, and estimated campaign ROI as revenue-to-send-cost ratio. Because the Campaigns module shares a database with the billing and POS system, the attribution is automatic — a customer on the campaign list who makes a purchase in the window is logged without any manual reconciliation. You see, per campaign, whether it moved the revenue needle — not just whether the message was opened.
